This post is made possible with support from the Meg Foundation. All opinions are my own.
I was on my way to get my first Pfizer shot when the email came through about Hack the Vax, sharing hacks for overcoming needle fear. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect to teach others how they can hack the vax.
I personally have never been afraid of needles, but I’ve heard quite a few people talk about it so I know it’s fairly common.
I guess saying that I don’t have a fear is not entirely true. I won’t watch when they put the needle in, but I don’t mind getting them. Maybe that is a little bit of needle fear? My husband told me he doesn’t watch either, yet neither of us really would say we are afraid of needles.
If you are one of many children and adults with needle fear, don’t worry, The Meg Foundation can help you get through it. If nothing else, you can promise yourself ice cream or a cocktail afterward. That’s what we do for our kids, so why not ourselves?
Just don’t forget to speak up and breathe.
This website will help you put a plan into place to work through the process. Needle anxiety is real, in fact, around 25% of adults have needle anxiety. It’s not something you have to be ashamed of, no matter what your age. I even have a friend covered in tattoos who is afraid of them. It’s that normal.
Once you realize your fear and learn how to work through it, the process will be easier, no matter what the reason.
Think, plan, and go get your shot (any shot) without fear, and pass on these techniques because you never know when someone else is feeling nervous. Working through those fears and getting your COVID-19 vaccination makes the whole community a safer place.
