40 random things about me on my 40th birthday

1. I absolutely hate being tickled. It hurts. It’s not funny. At all. It causes me to tense and jerk away and I usually have pain in my neck for days after. Please don’t do it. It’s not cute. I don’t like it. Just don’t do it.

2. My favorite colors are pink (pretty much all shades) and kelly green. It’s very Lilly (Pulitzer) of me. I also love teal/peacock blue.

3. I’m the baby of 9. There is a 9 year gap between me and number 8. I was born only 1 month (and 5 days!) before my mom’s first granddaughter.

4. I like single malt scotch (not too peaty please) and silver sipping tequila. Neat. Maybe a whisky stone but no water or ice.

5. I hate messes and wish my house were always clean. I know one day I will miss seeing my kids stuff but it gives me serious anxiety. Everyday.

6. I haven’t had a dog since I was about 14 and don’t plan to ever have one again. I had a miniature (bigger than teacup) poodle. I inherited him from my grandma. He was my baby. He died while I was visiting my dad and I was just devastated. Charlie and I did try twice but both times one kid freaked out and screamed/cried anytime he was near the dog so we had to give them back. It was heartbreaking. It also turns out our middle son is allergic to dog dander, so there’s that.

7. I’m more self conscious about my neurofibromatosis tumors than I am my spinal cord injury. Weird.

8. I have never learned how to properly swim. I can float and move through the water, no problem, I just have zero proper form.

9. I like raw salmon on my sushi rolls but I don’t like cooked salmon. I’ve tried it cooked a dozen different ways and I just can’t stand the taste.

10. I seriously suck at doing these kinds of the lists so we’re going to stop at 10. I made it a quarter of the way there!
